My evaluation
Throughout the progress of my animation
of my 2D and 3D I have learnt about the history of animation and the
development throughout the era’s that it has changed and how advanced animation
is now. We have looked at animation in different forms e.g.
cartoons, films, TV programs, adverts and how it has changed dramatically. We
learnt about the development of animation, this was a really interesting lesion
because I didn't really know about animation that much so it was
interesting to see how far back animation went. From this I learnt
about the development of the flip book (mutoscope), and
Willis O'Brien who created King Kong and the Lost World.
Before I could start my animation I did
a prezie about my 2D animation ideas, I did it on prezie because it was easy to
do and the presentation looked better than doing it on PowerPoint. Once I did
this I then looked further into my idea and for each idea I thought about what
TV or advert or game I got the idea from, this information was really useful
because once I knew were abouts I got the ideas from I could then start to look
how they made them and what type of settings they used so that I could make my
idea similar to it. Once I did a bit of in-depth research I then
made mind maps for my ideas. In the mind maps I decided on the characters and
the setting and what’s going to happen in the plot. I did all the paper work
and hazard sheets for each of my animation, I also created a storyboard for each
which was really useful to me because I saw it as a guide line which was really
useful to use when I was doing my animations.
Once I knew what I was doing for my 2D
and 3D animation I then did a proposal for each of them. I talked
about the medium, which I was aiming the animation at, my indication of style,
what it’s about, were I got the information from and the length of the
animation. I did this in great detail so that the person who was reading it
understood what I was aiming to achieve and how I was going to make the
animation. Once I did the proposal I then decided to design my layout of my 2D
animation making the characters and designing the scene. If you go on my blog
you will be able to see the different development of my characters and how they
came together.
Before I did my animations we did
products from a separate unit, which we were able to test and try making a
short movie with them. This was just a learning process. In mine I did a 2D animation,
which consisted of an alien in an aircraft and then crashing into a castle. For
this I drawn the rocket and the alien to piece the animation together I used a
software called stop motion. This program was really useful because I had never
used it before, in the program you can move you picture so it makes a sequence
and it makes an animation. I also used cut out, this was really helpful when it
came to putting the music onto it.
I started off doing my 2D animation; I
did all the backgrounds in my own time, because I knew
I wouldn't have enough time in college to do it. I then started to
make my animation by using the stop motion program, this was really fun to do
and I really enjoyed it, after I finished my animation I then put it into
iMovie and edited it and added music and changed the contrast and brightness.
Once I thought it was complete I then put it up on YouTube so that anyone can
watch it. I also put it on my Facebook so that I could get a variety of people
to comment on my animation.
After I finished my 2D animation, I started doing some research on my encyclopaedia. I researched the Internet by going on different websites, which was really helpful. Also to help me with my encyclopaedia we went to the media museum. I found it really helpful because you got to see and use some of the equipment that I was using in my encyclopaedia.
Once I researched my encyclopaedia, I then did the schedule and production paperwork for my 3D animation. On my day off college I went to Lees Library and took some pictures of my teddy reading. I got all the pictures I thought I needed and put them onto my pen-drive. But what I found out when I put them into Photoshop was that there weren’t enough images and it was really jumpy. So I changed my 3D animation to my fruit idea. I had to do it in a short space of time, I did a proposal and all the paperwork and started took loads more pictures I uploaded them onto Photoshop and then exported them onto imovie, I added sound and put it together. Once I finished it I put it onto YouTube and Facebook and asked people to comment.
Finally when I finished my 3D animation I then did my encyclopaedia on PowerPoint my encyclopaedia is for a children's book on the history of animation. I used the research that I gathered, and used it to help me complete my encyclopaedia.
I used my questionnaires and my comments on Facebook to gather feedback so that, I no what the public think of my animation, and what they think I could improve. From my questionnaire I have found out that all the people that watched it thought it was really good and liked how creative I have been with my animation. From my questionnaire I found that for my 2D animation I found that the public thought that my animation flowed smoothly, this was a good sign for me because this is what I wanted to achieve for my 2D animation. Most of the people either thought that my animation when they watched it made them feel happy or emotion. When I watched it I thought I was quiet emotional, because it shows just how the world has changed over the years, and how quickly the world can adapt to the environment. When it came to what I could improve, some people said nothing, but the people that looked more closely said about adding titles which I can agree with, like for example the year of each time. Another person said about having a character present throughout the animation. Finally another one said that more things could be moving in the background. If I was to do this animation again and re-do it I would take these ideas into an account to make my animation perfect.
For my 3D animation I also did a questionnaire, and from the questionnaire, I found out my animation needed a couple of tweaks in it. Someone said there was a slight problem when the grapes were drowning, and another person said it flowed smoothly but there is room for improvements. From these findings I re- looked at my animation I found were they were coming from. On the other hand everyone said the style, the creativity, the music and the technical quality was really good. Some people said that they thought I could improve if I was to do it again on having more characters and also not having as many blur pictures in the animation, which I totally agree. If I was to do it again I am sure I will be able to improve because I would have a lot more time and I would know what I'm doing.
Overall I am very proud of what I have achieve starting this unit I didn't expect to be at the standard of my work, I have worked hard and pushed myself to complete it on time. From my 2D animation I think this has to be my best work out of the two, because it has a deeper meaning to it than just pictures. I really like the bird that fly's and the dinosaur. I think if I was to do this a year ago it would of been at a much lower level. If I was to improve on my animation in the future I would have the animals moving a lot more, having the setting come to life a bit more and having more natural noises in the background. For my 3D animation I thought that the time I had to do it in, the animation came out pretty good and I surprised myself because I didn't think I could of got it done on time. In my animation I really liked the cherries and what they did. I think for my 3D animation I could improve on things like the photographs making sure they are clear every time Doing a couple of re-takes like the grape scene. But overall I am impressed with both of my animations and over the past couple of weeks I have learnt about the software and how to make a piece of animation.
