My Evaluation

My evaluation

-->
Throughout the progress of my animation of my 2D and 3D I have learnt about the history of animation and the development throughout the era’s that it has changed and how advanced animation is now.  We have looked at animation in different forms e.g. cartoons, films, TV programs, adverts and how it has changed dramatically. We learnt about the development of animation, this was a really interesting lesion because I didn't really know about animation that much so it was interesting to see how far back animation went.  From this I learnt about the development of the flip book (mutoscope), and Willis O'Brien who created King Kong and the Lost World.

Before I could start my animation I did a prezie about my 2D animation ideas, I did it on prezie because it was easy to do and the presentation looked better than doing it on PowerPoint. Once I did this I then looked further into my idea and for each idea I thought about what TV or advert or game I got the idea from, this information was really useful because once I knew were abouts I got the ideas from I could then start to look how they made them and what type of settings they used so that I could make my idea similar to it.  Once I did a bit of in-depth research I then made mind maps for my ideas. In the mind maps I decided on the characters and the setting and what’s going to happen in the plot. I did all the paper work and hazard sheets for each of my animation, I also created a storyboard for each which was really useful to me because I saw it as a guide line which was really useful to use when I was doing my animations.

Once I knew what I was doing for my 2D and 3D animation I then did a proposal for each of them. I talked about the medium, which I was aiming the animation at, my indication of style, what it’s about, were I got the information from and the length of the animation. I did this in great detail so that the person who was reading it understood what I was aiming to achieve and how I was going to make the animation. Once I did the proposal I then decided to design my layout of my 2D animation making the characters and designing the scene. If you go on my blog you will be able to see the different development of my characters and how they came together.

Before I did my animations we did products from a separate unit, which we were able to test and try making a short movie with them. This was just a learning process. In mine I did a 2D animation, which consisted of an alien in an aircraft and then crashing into a castle. For this I drawn the rocket and the alien to piece the animation together I used a software called stop motion. This program was really useful because I had never used it before, in the program you can move you picture so it makes a sequence and it makes an animation. I also used cut out, this was really helpful when it came to putting the music onto it.

I started off doing my 2D animation; I did all the backgrounds in my own time, because I knew I wouldn't have enough time in college to do it. I then started to make my animation by using the stop motion program, this was really fun to do and I really enjoyed it, after I finished my animation I then put it into iMovie and edited it and added music and changed the contrast and brightness. Once I thought it was complete I then put it up on YouTube so that anyone can watch it. I also put it on my Facebook so that I could get a variety of people to comment on my animation.

After I finished my 2D animation, I started doing some research on my encyclopaedia. I researched the Internet by going on different websites, which was really helpful. Also to help me with my encyclopaedia we went to the media museum. I found it really helpful because you got to see and use some of the equipment that I was using in my encyclopaedia.

Once I researched my encyclopaedia, I then did the schedule and production paperwork for my 3D animation. On my day off college I went to Lees Library and took some pictures of my teddy reading. I got all the pictures I thought I needed and put them onto my pen-drive. But what I found out when I put them into Photoshop was that there weren’t enough images and it was really jumpy. So I changed my 3D animation to my fruit idea. I had to do it in a short space of time, I did a proposal and all the paperwork and started took loads more pictures I uploaded them onto Photoshop and then exported them onto imovie, I added sound and put it together. Once I finished it I put it onto YouTube and Facebook and asked people to comment.

Finally when I finished my 3D animation I then did my encyclopaedia on PowerPoint my encyclopaedia is for a children's book on the history of animation. I used the research that I gathered, and used it to help me complete my encyclopaedia.

I used my questionnaires and my comments on Facebook to gather feedback so that, I no what the public think of my animation, and what they think I could improve. From my questionnaire I have found out that all the people that watched it thought it was really good and liked how creative I have been with my animation. From my questionnaire I found that for my 2D animation I found that the public thought that my animation flowed smoothly, this was a good sign for me because this is what I wanted to achieve for my 2D animation. Most of the people either thought that my animation when they watched it made them feel happy or emotion. When I watched it I thought I was quiet emotional, because it shows just how the world has changed over the years, and how quickly the world can adapt to the environment. When it came to what I could improve, some people said nothing, but the people that looked more closely said about adding titles which I can agree with, like for example the year of each time. Another person said about having a character present throughout the animation. Finally another one said that more things could be moving in the background. If I was to do this animation again and re-do it I would take these ideas into an account to make my animation perfect.

For my 3D animation I also did a questionnaire, and from the questionnaire, I found out my animation needed a couple of tweaks in it. Someone said there was a slight problem when the grapes were drowning, and another person said it flowed smoothly but there is room for improvements. From these findings I re- looked at my animation I found were they were coming from. On the other hand everyone said the style, the creativity, the music and the technical quality was really good. Some people said that they thought I could improve if I was to do it again on having more characters and also not having as many blur pictures in the animation, which I totally agree. If I was to do it again I am sure I will be able to improve because I would have a lot more time and I would know what I'm doing.

Overall I am very proud of what I have achieve starting this unit I didn't expect to be at the standard of my work, I have worked hard and pushed myself to complete it on time. From my 2D animation I think this has to be my best work out of the two, because it has a deeper meaning to it than just pictures. I really like the bird that fly's and the dinosaur. I think if I was to do this a year ago it would of been at a much lower level. If I was to improve on my animation in the future I would have the animals moving a lot more, having the setting come to life a bit more and having more natural noises in the background. For my 3D animation I thought that the time I had to do it in, the animation came out pretty good and I surprised myself because I didn't think I could of got it done on time. In my animation I really liked the cherries and what they did. I think for my 3D animation I could improve on things like the photographs making sure they are clear every time Doing a couple of re-takes like the grape scene. But overall I am impressed with both of my animations and over the past couple of weeks I have learnt about the software and how to make a piece of animation.

My designs of clay for my new 3D animation

These are my characters for my new 3D animation I have decided to do fruit with clay because I didn't have much time to do it because I had to change my idea, but know I have done them I think my animation is going to be better than the teddy bear one. I got the idea from the program ooglies. I am really proud of my clay animation because I have only touched on it this year, doing a bit of morph animation so I was really pleased of what I have achieved. In the first image they are the cherry first aids which save the grapes from drowning. The middle picture is of the evil apple who going to be like the pipe- piper who leads them to jumping in, and in the third picture is of the grapes which are the ones who get saved.

What I have Done So Far ...

So far I have started my new 3D animation, I have done the schedule and the production risk assessment and also my recce for it as well I have started on the characters by making them out of clay.

my new 3D Fruit Proposal

The medium I am going to use for my 3D fruit animation is going to be clay animated. I am also going to take series of shots about 19 per second on a SLR camera. The animation is going to be Fruit drowning in water and then getting saved by cherries. It is going to be based in a kitchen sink which is the main setting of the animation, once I have finished the animation I am the going to put music on it and put a bit of voice over so that you get each individual character.

My audience is going to be aged 5 – 12 years of age simply because it fruit talking and moving, and it’s something that I would associate with children in this age group rather than someone older. This age group is also because when I have done my research like in the TV program ooglies, I found that this age group is what they try and aim for as well.

My style for my animation is going to be quiet bright and colourful in some area, but when the apple comes on it’s going to go a bit darker to show that he is an evil apple. Also it going to be set in a natural environment simply because it fruit and from my research in ooglies they seem to use a more natural setting and use things which you would expect in that place of the house. My setting is going to be really simple and when the cherries come on they are going to be bright so tat the audience know that they are trying to help the grapes in a way.

I got the idea of my 3D animation from the TV show ooglies, this show is really like what I want to achieve because it uses the same types of techniques I want to use and a similar setting as well. I have also been looking at different clay animated shows like the morph and seen how they made the characters move and they way they moved there mouths and body. My animation is going to start off with an apple moaning and grumbling, then he sees the grapes and like the pipe- pipper he leads them to the sink and one by one they go into the water but can't swim, then the cherries come to the rescue and save them then there is going to be a close up of the apples face grumbling, and then you see the cherries bring the grapes alive and then they sing a song at the end.

The length of my animation has to be about 1 minute long so during this time I’m going to have to fit in with all my scenes with the apple and the grapes drowning and the cherry’s saving them ECT.

My recce and production schedule for my new 3D Animation

These are my recce and my production schedule for my new 3D animation, I am doing the animation at my home because there I have a sink and a blender and everything I need is there which is good, because I can work at my own paste and don't have a time limit, also I am not limited to resources.

My new 3D fruit animation idea- schedules and risk assessment

This is my production schedule for my 3D animation of my fruit idea. This is a another idea which is going to be my finial one, it tells you were about I'm going to be shooting, and what hazards might be a problem and how I'm going to reduce it.

This is my shooting schedule and my shot list for my 3D animation, these tell me what shots I'm going to do and were about's I'm going to do the shooting and what days ect.

My 3D Animation- Bear reading a book

This is part of my teddy bear 3D animation, know I have done part of it I have relied that it isn't as good as what I expected it to be, and that I am going to do another 3D animation which I have a mind map for, the reason why I don't think it will work because I have done it in images so it doesn't work as well as I want it too also I needed more images to make it flow more.

Research Into My Encyclopedia

This is my research of were I found some of the information to give me a bit of background knowledge of animation I then put it into my own words and set it out like a book.

On this link underneath is were I got I found some information about the dates of when animation was developed, the link underneath is a timeline of events of animation, I used some of this information because it was really useful but I put it in my own words.

http://joshuamosley.com/UPenn/courses/Ani/AnimationHistory.html

There is a couple of links were I some information about the persistence of vision from, on the websites they were okay to get a bit of background from and to get more information on it because I wasn't quiet sure on it.

What I have done so far

I have finished my animated animals and started on using stop motion program to start on my 2D animation which I'm aiming to finish tomorrow. I have also finished off my shooting schedule for my 2D animation and my recce and also my storyboard for my 2D and 3D animation.

My finished crocodile and dinosaur

This is my dinosaur and my crocodile finished, I have had to go over them again with pencil crayons and put pins in the legs so that they can move the legs in the animation.

Production Paperwork for my 3D Animal Animation

The 2 pictures are of my 3D animation of my location recce of were my 3D animation is going to take place. I have also done a production schedule of my deadlines and wen I'm going to finish them and start the filming and editing ect.

The 2 photos above are f my shooting schedule for example were I am going to do my filming on which days, I have decided I'm going to do half of the filming in college and the other half in Lees Library, I have also done a shot list of which camera shots I want to do in my filming, and were about on my storyboard it going to go.

Production Risk Assessment For My 3D Animal Animation

This is my production risk assessment for my 3D animation, it tells me when am going to do my filming were about the location is and the hazards and how am going to prevent it.
